FAQ's

What are your opening times?

We are open Monday to Friday, 50 weeks of the year from 8am-6pm excluding bank holidays

What happens at the settling in sessions?

We provide two separate, one hour sessions for your little one to come and familiarise themselves with their key person and new environment. Some children settle in quickly and some children take a little longer but please know we will provide the support your child needs and keep you updated with observations through our parent app or over the telephone.

How long should I keep my child away from nursery if they are unwell?

Parents are always best placed to decide if their child is well enough to attend nursery. Common colds and coughs are not a problem, unless your child has a high temperature with it. In which case, they should stay at home until their temperature goes down without medication. If your child is vomiting or is suffering from diarrhoea, they must not be in nursery until 48 hours after the symptoms have subsided. In addition, children with contagious bacterial infections such as impetigo or chicken pox should remain at home until all lesions have crusted or healed.

What if my child requires medication?

If your child is on medication we are happy to administer any medication prescribed for them at nursery on the condition that your child appears well enough to attend. All medicines brought into the nursery will need to be recorded on the nursery medication form and we will require your signature to authorise its administration. Any medication brought into the nursery must be in its original container and labelled with your child’s full name, the dosage required and the date it was prescribed. Any medication that does not meet these criteria and is not prescribed by a General Practitioner will not be administered.

Nursery staff are not able to administer the first dose of medication, therefore any child requiring medication must have had the first dose a minimum of 24 hours prior to coming into nursery.

What is your OFSTED rating?

Our last OFSTED rating was good and you can read it here. We are looking forward to showing OFSTED the growth and development our nursery has had since their last inspection and we will be sure to update parents when this happens.

What do I need to pay?

Invoices are sent out on the 10th of every month and payment is required by the end of the month.

Where can I access Little Explorer's policies?

All policies are available in our parent area for you to access.

How do I raise a concern that I might have about nursery?

We aim to provide a safe, secure and happy environment for children to prosper and develop. It is also our intention to give a high standard of care and nursery education in our setting. We accept that despite our best endeavours, there may be occasions when you feel we could have done better. We always encourage our parents to speak out if these moments occur so we can improve where needed and act straight away. Should you have any concerns regarding the care or any other aspect of the nursery, please in the first instance raise them with one of our management team. If you feel that they have not fully addressed your queries and/or concerns, then please e-mail enquiries_blackerhill@littleexplorerscommunitynursery.com or call Katie or Nicola on 01226 740878.

How do I leave a positive review?

We love to share all the wonderfulness we get up to on our socials. If you have time, please leave us a review on our Facebook page which can be found here. This helps small businesses like ours and supports parents in the community who are looking to make the right decision when choosing a nursery.
